Roblox is no longer just a playground for amateur creators—it’s a fast-growing digital economy that is turning teenagers into millionaires. In one recent case, a 19-year-old developer and his team sold a soccer-themed Roblox game for over $3 million. Remarkably, they built the game in just three months.

After its release, the game exploded in popularity, peaking with over one million concurrent players. Monthly in-game purchases exceeded $5 million. The game’s success quickly caught the eye of Do Big Studios, a company that owns multiple hit Roblox games, which eventually purchased the title in a multi-million-dollar deal.

This kind of massive payout shows how Roblox is evolving beyond its original scope. Once known for simple, low-resolution hobbyist games, the platform now attracts professional studios and investors eager to capitalize on the booming in-game economy. With nearly 100 million daily users, the opportunity for success has never been greater.

A New Wave of Game Acquisitions
David Taylor, an analyst at Naavik, confirmed this growing trend. “We’ve seen a real shift in Roblox’s ecosystem,” he said. Taylor pointed out that, in June alone, 7 of the 15 top-earning Roblox games had been acquired from independent developers.

This explosion in acquisitions followed a key policy shift. Prior to a December update, Roblox officially prohibited selling games, deeming it a violation of their terms of service. Although the company still doesn’t take part in secondary-market sales, developers and buyers have continued to make off-platform deals.

Do Big Studios is at the forefront of this trend. In May, the studio acquired part ownership of Grow a Garden, a farming game that broke records in June with over 21 million concurrent players—surpassing even Fortnite.

Another prominent example came in February, when the top-rated game Brookhaven RP was sold to Voldex Entertainment. Voldex CEO Alex Singer revealed the acquisition was even more significant than publicly reported, noting, “When there are more dollars paid out to creators, it attracts more people.”

Roblox’s Billion-Dollar Payout Era
With a robust creator community and a maturing economy, Roblox is on track to pay out more than $1 billion to developers in 2025. Over the past 12 months ending in March, the platform’s top 10 creators each earned around $36 million.

Roblox’s success stories reflect a broader shift in how young developers can build wealth and credibility in gaming—often before their 20th birthday.
